Plenary Session 9: Information Disorder and the Role of Civics
The Earth is flat; the moon landing was faked; COVID vaccines change your DNA; Pineapple belongs on pizza?! Our open society is constantly bombarded with disinformation, some of it even deliberately driven by malign actors. But with trust in institutions of all types eroding, who can our society turn to for truth? When only a third of those raised and educated here can pass the US citizenship test, do we even truly understand the functions of our own government and society?

Chris Krebs
Founding Partner, Krebs Stamos Group
Christopher Krebs is Founding Partner of the Krebs Stamos Group and Chair of the Commission on Information Disorder at the Aspen Institute as well as founding partner of the Krebs Stamos Group. He previously served as the first director of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) where he oversaw the Agency's efforts to manage risk to the nation's businesses and government agencies, bringing together partners to collectively defend against cyber and physical threats. Before serving as CISA Director, Mr. Krebs was appointed in August 2017 as the Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection. Mr. Krebs joined the DHS in March 2017, first serving as Senior Counselor to the Secretary. Prior to coming to DIS, he led Microsoft's U.S. cybersecurity policy efforts. Mr. Krebs holds a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason Universitv.

Olivia Trove
Founder, The Troye Group
Olivia Trove is a national security executive and media commentator with over twenty years of government and private sector experience. She served as Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor to the Vice President of the United States and has served in leadership roles at the Department of Homeland Security, Director of National Intelligence, National Counterterrorism Center, Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense. Troye has managed complex policy decisions and responses to large scale crisis events, including the Covid-19 pandemic. She has also led technology projects for DOD with General Dynamics Information Technology and assisted Fortune 5oo companies in navigating security challenges in the Middle East and North Africa for the US Chamber of Commerce. Troye most recently is supporting efforts to counter extremism and disinformation in protection and preservation of the United States as a democracy. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsvlvania, the National Defense University, and the Naval Postgraduate School.
